Safest cities for women: A new report on the safest cities for women in India has been released. The report reveals which cities are leading the way in terms of women’s safety, career advancement and living freedom. Importantly, major cities like Delhi and Mumbai failed to make it to the top spot this time, while South Indian cities made it to the list. Which Indian cities are ranked first in women safety except Delhi and Mumbai and which cities are included in the full list.

Bengaluru tops the list of safest cities for women

Bengaluru has emerged as the safest and most women-friendly city in the country, according to the fourth edition of India’s Top Cities for Women report by workplace culture consulting firm Avtar Group. Bengaluru scored a city inclusion score of 53.29. Women here not only feel safe but also enjoy better career opportunities and work-life balance.

Chennai is second

Chennai ranks second in TCWI’s list. According to the report, Chennai performed well on social criteria such as safety, public services, transport, health and education. Moreover, the city consistently ranks high for women’s economic participation and safe environment.

Pune and Hyderabad also in top 5

Pune is ranked third in the report, while Hyderabad is ranked fourth. Both cities have emphasized housing, employment, participation and industry support for women. Hyderabad in particular has reported better jobs and workplace representation for women.

Mumbai ranks fifth in the list of best cities for women

Mumbai has been included in the top 5 list of best cities to work for women, the city has been ranked fifth. According to the report, while there are plenty of employment opportunities in Mumbai, the high cost of living and limited infrastructure are challenges for women.

Only Gurugram entered the top 10 from NCR

While Delhi, Noida and Gurugram are major employment-generating cities in Delhi-NCR, the report further states that these cities lag behind in terms of safety, affordability and transport facilities.
According to a report by Avtar Group, a workplace culture consultancy, only Gurugram has made it to the top 10 cities from NCR, ranking sixth. Interestingly, Gurugram has jumped three places compared to last year.

Strong performance from Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Coimbatore

Kolkata ranked seventh on the women’s safety criteria, while Ahmedabad was ranked eighth, with strong skill development and industrial support systems for women observed.

Along with this, the city of Coimbatore is at the 10th position. Initiatives such as streetlight audits here have made it safer for women to work and travel late at night, the report said.

How is the ranking determined?

The report covers 125 Indian cities and the ranking is based on the city inclusion score. The city inclusion score for the report is divided into two parts: Social Inclusion Score, which considers parameters such as safety, ease of living, health and women empowerment. The Industrial Inclusion Score looks at jobs for women, women-friendly companies and career support.
