Alex de Minaur is chasing his first victory over Carlos Alcaraz as he gears up to meet the world No. 1 at the Australian Open. The Australian star advanced to the quarter-finals following his triumph over Alexander Bublik and is within touching distance of his best showing at a Grand Slam, supported by his long-term partner Katie Boulter.
The 26-year-old faces a formidable test on home turf after Alcaraz's victory against Tommy Paul. The Spaniard has yet to surrender a set in Melbourne as he pursues his maiden Australian Open crown.
De Minaur and Alcaraz have clashed five times during their careers, with the latter emerging victorious in all their encounters. The current world No.6 will be determined to halt Alcaraz's run as he strives to secure his first major and has previously joked about Alcaraz stopping him from claiming titles.
One of their five prior encounters occurred in the ATP500 Rotterdam final in February 2025. It marked De Minaur's second consecutive final at the tournament, having been defeated in the title decider by Jannik Sinner the year before.

De Minaur's clash with Alcaraz also ended in disappointment as he fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Despite coming up short, he made light of his own bad luck on social media.

Following his loss to Sinner in 2024, the Australian had posted: "I don't like you anymore @janniksin," accompanied by a laughing face emoji.
A year on, after falling to Alcaraz in February, De Minaur added to his previous message: "Ahhhhhh I don't like you either @carlitosalcarazz. Another great week here in @abnamropen, I'll get the title one day."
Their upcoming Australian Open encounter won't be the first time that Alcaraz and De Minaur have faced off at the Rod Laver Arena. Before last year's tournament, the duo took part in an exhibition match, which came a month after De Minaur had announced his engagement to British tennis star Boulter.
During their post-match interviews, Alcaraz was given the chance to congratulate De Minaur, resulting in an uncomfortable exchange. "I mean I already told him congratulations. I don't know if you're sure about it," Alcaraz quipped, prompting laughter from the crowd.
He added: "I've seen them together at tournaments. I don't know Katie very much but it seems that she's a really nice person. I think you're going to enjoy this marriage and hopefully everything will be all good."
On Tuesday, both players will be striving to reach their first Australian Open semi-final. Alcaraz progressed to the quarter-finals with a straight-sets triumph against American star Paul, while De Minaur also saw off Kazakhstan's Bublik in three sets.
