‘Z’ has taken an ambitious step to give a national platform to the new generation of storytellers in various languages ​​of India. Zee Entertainment Enterprises has announced ‘Zee Short Film Contest’, a comprehensive, industry-defining and nationwide omnichannel initiative. This is seen as the next step in our commitment to building a future content ecosystem based on culture, creativity and inclusiveness.

The main objective of the competition is to discover, mentor and honor budding filmmaking talent across the country. The competition is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious multi-lingual talent hunt initiatives in the Indian entertainment industry, with directors from various regional film industries coming together for the first time on a national platform.

The initiative covers seven major languages ​​namely Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. The core of the initiative is to provide storytellers with diverse cultural backgrounds and rich film traditions a prestigious platform at the national level with the support of industry veterans.

Anirag Kashyap known for bold storytelling in Hindi cinema, Ravi Jadhav known for culturally impactful films in Marathi, rich director Srijit Mukherjee in Bengali cinema, Nag Ashwin known for his grandiose imagination, Samuthirkani for making impactful films on social issues, internationally acclaimed Malayalam director Lijo Jose Pellissery and Hemant M. known for emotional and nuanced storytelling. Rao is involved as a veteran examiner.

For the first time, these directors who lead their respective regional film movements have come together on one platform and this initiative is being implemented to provide guidance and opportunities to budding talent. Their participation not only lends credibility to the competition, but also reflects India’s linguistic and creative diversity. As stories reach audiences through multiple mediums in the digital age, this initiative encourages creators to think beyond just one format. The focus will be on creating impactful stories that can be presented across all three mediums – digital, television and theatres.
