When the body moves from a lying position to a standing position, blood pressure can suddenly drop. If the body doesn't quickly adjust, it can cause a feeling of dizziness.

If you wake up in the morning and experience dizziness, blurred vision, or a lightheaded feeling for a few seconds, it shouldn't be taken lightly. Many people dismiss it as fatigue, lack of sleep, or weakness, but repeated episodes could be a sign of an underlying medical condition. Doctors say that in most cases, dizziness upon waking up in the morning is linked to a sudden change in body position. When we stand upright from a lying position, blood supply to the brain is momentarily reduced; this condition is called orthostatic hypotension.

What is orthostatic hypotension?

When the body moves from a lying position to a standing position, blood pressure can suddenly drop. If the body can't quickly adjust, it can cause a feeling of dizziness. This problem is especially common in the elderly, those who drink less water, or those taking certain medications.

Common causes of morning dizziness include

dehydration.

The body loses water during sleep. Not drinking enough water throughout the day can also cause a drop in blood pressure and dizziness in the morning. Consuming alcohol or excessive caffeine can worsen this problem, leading to dizziness upon waking.

Low blood sugar:

Some people may experience low blood sugar levels due to an empty stomach in the morning. Diabetics, especially those taking insulin or other medications, may experience dizziness, weakness, and anxiety due to hypoglycemia.

Side effects of medications related

to blood pressure, depression, heart disease, or sleeping pills can also cause morning dizziness. These medications affect blood pressure or nerve function.

Sleep apnea:

If breathing stops at night, it can lower oxygen levels in the body. This can cause dizziness or heaviness upon waking in the morning.

Ear problems:

The inner ear maintains body balance. Inflammation, infection, or crystal defects can cause severe dizziness upon turning or getting up. Anaemia, migraines, or certain neurological problems can also cause frequent dizziness.

Easy ways to avoid dizziness in the morning:

If you also have problems with dizziness as soon as you wake up in the morning, then try not to get up from bed suddenly. First, sit for a few minutes and then get up slowly. Also, keep drinking enough water throughout the day, and drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning. Avoid consuming alcohol and too much caffeine at night, and make sure to have breakfast so that black blood sugar remains stable. Also, if you are taking any medicine and dizziness is increasing, then you can also get it checked by a doctor.
