Today, the historic Akhand Chandi Mahal’s Darbar Hall buzzed with excitement as Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal led the celebrations for International Women’s Day and Chamba Day.

The event, themed “Celebrating Chamba and the Spirit of Women”, showcased the significant achievements and contributions of women in society. Notable attendees included Assistant Commissioner Aparajita Chandel, Captain (Retd.) Anumeha Parashar, Deputy Director of Sainik Welfare, and DIET Principal Namrata Sharma.

In his speech, DC Repaswal highlighted that achieving true equality necessitates ongoing and collective efforts. He stressed the importance of moving beyond mere symbolic gestures to address critical issues such as education, health, and social equality for meaningful change. He pointed out that even minor discrimination can adversely affect children's psychological development and urged families to foster equality at home.

The Deputy Commissioner also encouraged Anganwadi workers to drive positive changes within their households, creating a ripple effect throughout the community. He commenced the program by lighting a ceremonial lamp and awarded cheques of ₹10,000 and ₹12,000 to outstanding girl students from Classes 10 and 12 who excelled academically, bringing pride to Chamba district.

Chamba Day Discussions at Bhuri Singh Museum
A special discussion took place earlier at the Bhuri Singh Museum auditorium, chaired by DC Repaswal. He encouraged the youth to engage in preserving and promoting Chamba’s rich folk art and culture, emphasizing that safeguarding heritage is a shared responsibility. Contributions from organizations like Not On Map, Prayas, and Drona Samiti were acknowledged.

Heritage Walk Showcases Chamba’s Legacy
To continue the festivities, a heritage walk was initiated from the Bhuri Singh Museum, allowing participants to explore Chamba’s historic temples, monuments, and cultural treasures. District Tourism Officer Rajiv Mishra, District Language Officer Tukesh Sharma, and Museum Curator Surender Kumar provided detailed insights during the walk.

The event attracted participation from senior officials, including Chief Medical Officer Dr. J.S. Bhardwaj, District Development Officer Tevendra Chinoria, District Program Officer Kamal Kishore Sharma, Tehsildar Bhupendra Kashyap, Assistant Engineer Nitika Thakur, Anganwadi workers, social organizations, and students.
