Richard Osman admits he would be "interested" in a new career move following his departure from House of Games. It comes just over a week after the 55-year-old announced he would be quitting the BBC quiz show after "nine amazing years".

The former Pointless presenter revealed he had filmed more than 800 episodes of House of Games since it began in 2017. On his podcast, The Rest is Entertainment, the star said it would be "somebody else's House of Games" after the BBC agreed to continue the show.

He has now hinted that he would be open to taking on a new type of TV show, having predominantly hosted quiz shows so far. Speaking to co-host Marina Hyde in his latest podcast episode, Richard said: "Nobody who has anybody money in television wants to spend it on a chat show.

"That said, Channel 4, I would be interested in doing one. I'm free. I'm sort of free now. House of Games, my bit of it, is done and I like talking to people."

Richard went on to reveal that all "newly famous" stars pitch the same TV show idea. He claims producers are regularly met with proposals to do a "chat show with ordinary people".

He later told Marina that he feared he would be "terrible" on a chat show. He continued: "I couldn't do it though, I'd be terrible at a chat show.

"It's really, really, really difficult to make a chat show. I'd prefer to do a chat show with ordinary people, I think it would be more fun. It's what everyone always pitches and it is interesting."

He explained the idea has never got off the ground because "nobody wants a chat show". He said: "We had an idea once that was called the Chat Show of Doom, which I really liked.

"You had five guests and the audience would vote off the most boring one after each round. So the first round would be 'give us an anecdote from your school days' and the second round would be 'bring on a friend'."

Richard says the celebrities voted off would then "stand on the side lines and ask questions". Alongside his TV work, Richard has become a best-selling author, launching his Thursday Murder Club series in 2020.

Since then he has sold more than 17 million books worldwide. Last year Netflix released a film adaptation of the first book starring the likes of Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie.

The TV star, who married wife Ingrid in 2022, explained that juggling his writing and presenting was one of the reasons he decided to step down from House of Games. He said: "I've loved it. And of course I met my wife through it as well.

"It's just with the writing, there comes a point, you know, where you have to hand it over. I've loved doing it so much and I'll be gutted when I don't do it any more."
