ITV were hit by a sound issue during their pre-match coverage of the Carabao Cup final between Arsenal and Manchester City. The Gunners and City are going head-to-head at Wembley Stadium for the first major trophy of the season.

Arsenal booked their place in the final thanks to a victory over Chelsea in their semi-final, while Man City defeated last year's winners Newcastle to secure their spot in the showpiece fixture at Wembley.

However, around an hour before kick-off, ITV encountered a technical issue during their broadcast, which resulted in no sound during their pre-match coverage. ITV were simulcasting Sky Sports’ pre-match coverage on their channel and live streaming service, ITVX.

Presenter Mark Chapman and Arsenal legend Ian Wright were taking part in the pre-match build-up for Sky Sports, but there was no sound during the coverage that was being broadcast on ITV or ITVX.

With no sound being broadcast, ITV instead were forced to send an apology to viewers less than an hour before kick-off at Wembley.

“We apologise for the audio disruption,” the message from ITV read on the screen.

Arsenal and City went into the game against City with contrasting form from midweek, with the Gunners claiming a victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League to reach the quarter-final.

However, City suffered a defeat to Real Madrid in their last-16 tie, and will now be focused on securing one of three trophies still up for grabs for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

Mikel Arteta made two changes to the Arsenal team that beat Leverkusen in midweek, with Kepa Arrizabalaga selected in goal in place of David Raya. Kepa has been used throughout the Carabao Cup this season and was given the nod for the final at Wembley.

Viktor Gyokeres was also handed a start for Arsenal, with Eberechi Eze ruled out with a suspected injury. There was also no Jurrien Timber, Martin Odegaard or Mikel Merino in the matchday squad for the Gunners, with the trio all sidelined with injuries.

City were also forced to deal with injury concerns for the Carabao Cup final, with defender Ruben Dias ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Josko Gvardiol was also unavailable for City with a long-term knee injury that has kept the defender on the sidelines since January.
