Singapore’s Changi Airport fell out of the world’s top 10 for security screening this year as part of the World Airport Awards, according to London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax.

Hong Kong was named the world’s best airport for security screening this year, followed by Japan’s Chubu Centrair and the U.K.’s London Heathrow, based on a survey that assessed passengers’ experiences across multiple factors, including waiting times, queuing systems, priority lanes, smart security options, efficiency and courtesy of security staff, preparation, repacking facilities.

Changi ranked seventh on the list last year.

Last year Singaporean authorities strengthened border control to better identify higher-risk travelers, vehicles and cargo for enhanced checks at checkpoints.

Some 45,700 foreign travelers were denied entry into Singapore in 2025, a 38.3% increase from the previous year, following tighter border security measures, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said.

From Jan. 30 Singapore started implementing stricter measures to prevent travelers deemed undesirable or who do not meet entry requirements from boarding flights to the city-state.

Overall, Changi Airport was still named the world’s best airport for 2026, marking its second consecutive win after also taking the top spot in 2025. It ranked second in 2024.

The latest accolade brings Changi’s total to 14 wins, the most in the history of the awards, which began in 2000.
