They also give customers the freedom to choose exactly what data allowance they want and how long they want it for.

The PAYG Mobile Broadband and iPad SIMs were discontinued by O2 back in August last year, but any customers who had already bought them have been able to continue using them.

However, this is set to change from Friday as O2 has informed customers that this service is ending on January 31, just months after it withdrew the SIMs from sale.

In an email to customers, O2 said: "We're sorry to let you know that we're removing our Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband & iPad services from our portfolio on 31 January 2025. You can continue to use your service until 31 January 2025, after which time your service shall cease.

"As you are a Pay As You Go customer, you're able to leave your service at any time with no Early Termination Charges."

"In order to obtain a refund for any data not used on your account, you'll need to call O2 customer services on 0344 8090222 to provide your contact details so we can process your refund request."

Anyone who bought a PAYG Mobile Broadband SIM can return it for a full refund and can also claim a refund for any unused data on your account by calling O2 customer services on 0344 809 0222.

Customers who wish to stay with O2 will need to switch to a pay monthly contracted data SIM plan from Friday instead.
