The incident which has recently seen Udit Narayan hit into controversy is a video footage recorded during a live show; the singer kissed one of his fans on the lips. This took place while he was performing the popular Tip Tip Barsa Paani, leaving the fans and other social media spectators speechless. It was further seen that Udit Narayan kissed the fan on the lips after pointing out to the bouncer that she should be allowed to take a selfie. However, the unexpected action generated different matches of reaction, many of them scolding his act via social media.

In his first public statement, post-incident, he defended it by saying it should not be blown out of proportions. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he mentioned that mostly such things happen in moods of frenzy owing to the crowd, despite security arrangements.
Further, handshakes or selfies could express admiration from fans. He couldn’t understand why this particular act had gained so much attention. Udit also declared himself to be an upright person, “Hum log aise nahi hain, hum decent log hai.” Udit Narayan hinted that the whole episode could be a part of some conspiracy to target him or his family, who happen to be rather controversy-free. He further said there could be something against this viral video, particularly because of his family history of being contamination-free.
The 46-year veteran of Bollywood also made it clear that the kiss was a spur-of-the-moment and not a deliberate act. He added that during live performances, his focus is on ensuring that his fans are happy. Regardless of all that, Udit professed respect for his fans- he mostly thanks them kneeling or with folded hands while on the stage.
