New Delhi, 21 February (IANS). Have been listening to the elders- honey and ghee are like poison. Our ancient medical system also says the same. This is because both of them together produce toxins in the body, which have a negative effect on health.
When the properties of honey and ghee are used in the right amount and right conditions, they are nectar for the body. But if they are consumed in equal quantity simultaneously, then the toxin can be the same. It is described in Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita. According to ancient texts, if taken in equal quantity or at an inappropriate time, they produce 'Ama' in the body, which cause many diseases.
According to Charak Samhita, both honey and ghee are rich in highly nutrients, but when they are mixed in equal amounts, they can cause adverse effects rather than balanced each other's properties. Consuming this mixture on an empty stomach or excessive quantity causes disturbances, lethargy, weight gain and other health problems in the digestive system.
In Charak Samhita, both of them are advised to use them with a third substance.
The same warning has been given in the context of a mixture of honey and ghee in the Sushruta Samhita. In Ayurveda, the mail of these two is also acclaimed like nectar, when it is taken in the right amount and at the right time. For example, if a mixture of honey and ghee is taken with things like hot or boiling milk, tea, meat-fish, radish, it can prove toxic for the body.
If honey is consumed by mixing lemon, cinnamon, ginger, garlic or lukewarm water, it can provide protection from many diseases for the body, improve digestion and help in the body's detoxification.
If ghee is done with herbs rich in medicinal properties like turmeric, basil, camphor or cinnamon, then the properties increase manifold. Ayurveda also states that a combination of ghee with turmeric is helpful in reducing weight, building new blood vessels, improving heart health and improving the functioning of the kidneys.
Consumption of ghee with basil provides essential vitamins and minerals to the body, which reduces mental stress and also improves digestion. Mixing ghee with camphor and cinnamon also strengthens the body's immune system and makes it possible to prevent digestive diseases. These combinations have special significance in the scriptures of Ayurveda, as they have been considered 'nectar', which maintains balance in the body as well as protecting from various diseases.
