Jurgen Klopp has explained why he bluntly refused to answer questions over his role at Red Bull at a charity gala on Saturday night.

The legendary former boss was attending the German Sports Aid's 'Ball des Sports' in Frankfurt. After , he took on in January.

It was a controversial move, with on working for multi-club models. Klopp has been frequently questioned on his new job whenever he has made a public appearance in recent months.

He refused to go into further detail on the reasons behind his refusal to answer the question. Instead, he replied: "No, I'm relaxed, everything's fine."

Klopp later made it clear his decision to avoid answering was due to his desire to keep the focus on the German Sports Aid Foundation. He added: "The German Sports Aid Foundation is one of the most important organizations we have.

"Let's be honest: how many athletes can make a living from their sport? Very few. That's why we have to make sure that we help the fantastic athletes. I don't enjoy dressing up like that for an evening. I had to buy the clothes. That's not so bad. But I had no idea how to put on cufflinks and so on and so forth." Klopp also added that he would "buy tickets like crazy" to support the raffle in aid of young athletes.

The Ball des Sports is primarily used to raise money for athletes who are supported by the German Sports Aid Foundation. When he started his new role, Klopp admitted that the Red Bull job was too good to turn down.

"I want people to see us playing and without reading the name on the shirt, they should feel it – they should know (we’re Red Bull)," Klopp said. "What I want to do is develop football – develop football for our clubs, for our players and for our talents.

"I've been a leader for the last three decades, but I want to listen, I want to feel, I want to learn and I want to understand what the people did so far, because I can tell you they all did a brilliant job.

"It's not that we’re starting from scratch, but to bring it all together, I think that's a real challenge, to be honest. That's what we'll try to do. When you're in the manger's job, you have no time for that, because you play every three days.

"Now I'm free of that. I have time and energy for all the other stuff. That's why it was an easy decision for me. It's a sports decision and I love the Red Bull sports idea. It's exciting, it's adventurous, it's innovative and I want to be part of that – and now I am."
