Instagram on Wednesday announced new features for direct messages (DM). With the new features, users will now be able to translate messages in different languages in 1:1 chats, now messages can also be scheduled and it will also be easy to share music with others without leaving the chat window. Earlier Instagram allowed users to pin up to three chat threads to the top of the DM inbox, now users can also pin specific chats on the instant messaging platform.

New features on Instagram
In a blog post, Instagram has detailed the new features coming to DM. A new message translation feature has been introduced on Instagram. As the name suggests, this will allow users to translate messages received from others directly in DM into their preferred language. At launch, this feature supports 99 languages. The company has noted that messages selected for translation will be shared with the meta.

Another new feature is message scheduling. Similar to the capability recently introduced on iPhones after the iOS 18 update, Instagram is now allowing users to schedule messages. Apart from this, they can also schedule reminders. To do so, one just needs to hold the send button, select the date and time for scheduling, and tap on send.

The instant messaging platform claims that its latest update makes it easier to find and keep important conversations handy. While previously the app allowed users to pin up to three chat threads, users can now pin specific messages as well. To access this feature, they need to hold down the message and select the pin option.

And if you are talking about the latest music with your friends in DM, you can now send them a 30-second preview of it without leaving the chat window. This change applies to both 1:1 and group chats. To share a song, open the sticker tray in the chat and tap on the 'Music' option to search for any song in the audio library. Then, tap on the track to send a 30-second preview of the selected track.

The last notable addition is sharing personalized QR codes for group chats. Users can create a QR code for a specific group chat and show it to others, who can scan it and join the chat. Instagram says this eliminates the need to specifically add each person to group conversations.
