has launched two new flight routes, connecting two UK airports with two new cities. 

The low-cost airline is gearing up to offer the only direct flights from the UK to Medina in Saudi Arabia. has announced that daily return journeys between Gatwick Airport and Medina will kick off on August 1, with bookings aboard a state-of-the-art Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Keen travellers can snag single trip tickets starting at £233.99.

The Airbus A321XLR boasts an impressive fuel capacity, delivering flights that can last up to a whopping 11 hours, while trimming down on fuel consumption by up to 30% per seat when pitted against older counterparts, according to specs outlined by Airbus.

With an order of 47 planes under their belt, Wizz Air plans to deploy its inaugural A321XLR for the Gatwick-Jeddah route flying from March 31, marking the airline's lengthiest trek from UK soil.

This week, Wizz Air also announced a new route from Birmingham to Rome Fiumicino. The flights will be operated three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The new route adds to Wizz Air’s existing service from the UK to Rome, operating flights from London Gatwick to the Italian capital.

The new route will run from June 16, 2025, with fares starting from £31.99. Olivia Harangozó, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air, said: "We are excited to add this new route to our portfolio in Birmingham, giving more opportunity for Brits to visit the eternal city in its Jubilee Year for low fares. Rome is one of the world’s most iconic destinations, and we are delighted to continue offering new affordable travel options to one of the most sought-after city-break destinations for British tourists.”

All flights will be operated using the last-generation Airbus A321neo. Tom Screen, aviation director of Birmingham Airport., said: “It’s great news that Wizz Air has decided to increase its presence at Birmingham Airport with the launch of a new route to Rome. This new route complements the airlines existing routes to: Budapest, Bucharest and Craiova direct from Birmingham. Rome is a major European centre for finance, business, and culture, so it is great to have more capacity and choice on this route for our customers.”

Wizz Air marked its twentieth anniversary last year, having made its inaugural flight on May 19, 2004. In the UK, the airline now operates up to 168 flights a day across 95 routes from Aberdeen Airport, Birmingham Airport, Glasgow Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport, London Luton Airport and London Gatwick. Wizz Air currently employs more than 900 people in the UK and is poised to launch a fresh recruitment drive for pilots.
