Chandigarh: Continuing its action against drug smugglers, Punjab police on Thursday claimed to have demolished illegally constructed houses of two drug peddlers in Patiala and Rupnagar districts with the help of local administration.

Stating that the police teams took the action against a habitual drug smuggler identified as Rinky, a resident of Rodi Kut Mohalla in Patiala, an official statement said that the accused Rinky has been facing at least 10 first information reports (FIRs) registered against her between 2016 and 2024, under the NDPS Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh said that the house of the drug offender, which was an illegal construction, was demolished by Patiala police as per the demolition orders given by district administration.

Similarly, in Rupnagar, the district police and administration demolished the illegally constructed house of drug smugglers identified as Salim Mohammad and his wife Asha, said Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and SSP Rupnagar Gulneet Singh Khurana, the release said. The SSP said that the both husband and wife are habitual drug peddlers and have been facing three criminal cases each under the NDPS Act.

It may be recalled that on Monday also, the Punjab police had demolished the illegal properties of two drug peddlers, Sonu and Rahul Hans, residents of Ludhiana.
