Vijay Shankar (born 26 January 1991) is an Indian cricketer who plays for the Tamil Nadu cricket team. He is an all -rounder who bats with the right hand and bowls the medium speed of the right hand. In the Indian Premier League, he played a match for Chennai Super Kings in 2014 and four matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017.
Playing for Tamil Nadu, he won two-match match awards in the knockout phase of the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy. In the quarterfinals against Vidarbha, he scored 111 and 82 runs for which he was named Man of the Match. The match was drawn but Tamil Nadu proceeded in the first round in the first innings. Against Maharashtra in the semi -finals, he scored 91 runs and scored 2/47 runs to win the second man of the match. The game was also drawn and Tamil Nadu reached the final under the leadership of the first innings. In the final against Karnataka, he scored 5 and 103 runs and raised 1/92. However, Karnataka registered an innings victory to win the title.
The specialty of Vijay Shankar's sports style
Vijay Shankar's fame is in limited overs matches as big shots. But, at the time, he has also proved his usefulness in big format i.e. Test matches.
Vijay Shankar's name first came into the limelight when he was included in the team in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the Test series against Sri Lanka in November 2017. However, he is considered a good all -rounder. Cricket experts have seen him as an alternative to all -rounder cricket Pandya.

First class cricket
Vijay Shankar played the Ranji tournament in the first first class cricket 2012-13 of his career. In this tournament, Vijay got a chance to play 3 matches in which he scored an unbeaten century. If seen, Vijay's best performance was seen in the 2014-15 Ranji tournament.
In that he played 7 matches in which he scored 2 centuries and 3 half -centuries. Vijay Shankar along with a total of 557 runs took 8 wickets, which was his best all-round performance. Due to this performance, Vijay Shankar was selected in the Indian A team against Australia A. Where he performed well than expected.
After this, Vijay Shankar did not stop anywhere, the next tour of India A was South Africa. Vijay Shankar was also selected in that team. In that tri -series, India managed to wave its glory and won the tournament
International career
Vijay Shankar was selected in the Indian team for the first time against Sri Lanka in November 2017, but Vijay did not get a chance to play a single match. When the T20 tri -series was held in Sri Lanka in February 2018, the Indian team was announced for that series. All senior players were given rest in that team and all young players were given a chance. A name in the team captained by Rohit Sharma was also of Vijay Shankar who was in the team as an all -rounder.
Vijay Shankar played the first match of his international career against Sri Lanka on 6 March 2018. In this series, he also took wickets against Bagladesh. In that match, he scored 4 overs in which he took 2 wickets for 32 runs. Vijay Shankar was adjudged Man of the Match thanks to a bowling.
IPL
In the auction held this year, Vijay Shankar has been bought by Delhi Daredevils for 3.2 crores. However, earlier he did not perform anything special in this cricket league. In the 2013 IPL, Vijay Shankar was included in his team by Chennai Super Kings, but that year he did not get a chance to play any match. In 2014, Vijay Shankar was included in the playing XI for a match, but did not get a chance to bat. He conceded 19 runs in one over bowling, but did not get any wicket.
In the 2016 auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad included Shankar in his team, but was not included in the playing XI. In the year 2017, Vijay Shankar got a chance to play in 4 matches from Sunrisers and scored 101 runs at an average of 50.5 and a strike rate of 134.66.
