April 18, Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: The Gujarat Titans (GT) announced on Thursday that they had signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka to play the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in place of Glenn Phillips, who is injured.

“The Gujarat Titans (GT) have selected Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025,” the league said in a media release.

After suffering a groin injury during the April 6 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Phillips left for New Zealand.

Ishan Kishan pushed a short ball to the point for a single during Prasidh Krishna’s over, causing the injury. Glenn Phillips did all he could to halt the run. The run was successfully completed by the batters, but Phillips was hurt. A few minutes later, the medical staff removed him off the pitch.

Philips has not yet made an appearance for GT in the 2025 IPL. He is among the top fielders, and GT used him in the match against SRH. He was the top fielder in the ICC tournament and shown his abilities at the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Phillips paid INR 2 crore to join GT at the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Glenn has represented both SRH and RR in eight IPL games. In eight games, he has scored 65 runs, with a high of 25.

All-rounder Shanaka has amassed 1456 runs at an average of 19.67 and five half-centuries in 102 Twenty20 Internationals for Sri Lanka. He has also claimed 33 T20I wickets.

He has also represented Sri Lanka in 6 Test matches and 71 ODIs. With two hundreds and four fifties in 63 innings, Shanaka has amassed 1,299 runs at an average of 22.39 throughout his ODI career. He has also claimed 27 wickets at an average of 37.00. With top statistics of 3/46, he has amassed 140 runs at an average of 14.00 in 12 innings and one half-century in 12 innings in six Test matches. He has also taken 13 wickets at an average of 33.15. He captained Sri Lanka to victory in the 2022 Asia Cup.

In the T20 league circuit, Shanaka is equally well-known. He has amassed 4,449 runs at an average of 26.17 in 243 games and 222 innings, including three hundreds and sixteen fifties. With top stats of 4/16, he has also taken 91 scalps at an average of 25.29.

In 2023, he was a member of GT and scored 10 minutes in 3 games. For Rs 75 lakh, the all-round player will join GT.
