All ChatGPT members, whether on the free plan, Plus, Team, or Pro, may now use the new, lightweight version of OpenAI’s Deep Research tool. This version, according to OpenAI, is intended to be less demanding on its systems, quicker, and more economical.

Developed using OpenAI’s o4-mini framework, this lightweight model has been made available to assist in raising the platform’s existing rate constraints. OpenAI guarantees customers that it is still very clever and completely capable of doing live internet research and gathering real-time data, even if it may not be able to match the original Deep Research version’s full capabilities.

The business emphasizes that while the replies produced by this lightweight tool will often be shorter, they will nonetheless provide insightful information. In a post on X (previously Twitter), OpenAI said that “responses will typically be shorter while maintaining the depth and quality you’ve come to expect.”

Based on a specifically adjusted version of its future o3 model, OpenAI released the first iteration of its Deep Research tool earlier this year. This application was designed primarily for precise data analysis and lengthy online surfing. Deep Research is designed for in-depth projects that need careful processing, information collecting, and fact-checking, as opposed to GPT-4o, which is best at rapid exchanges and real-time talks.
