And the is aiming to break the record for the most participants in a marathon, with an estimated 56,000 people set to take part this weekend. The current record of 55,646 was set by the New York City Marathon last November.

A total of 840,318 people applied to take part in this weekend's race via the public ballot. It is also the ’s largest annual one-day fundraising event with more than £1.3 billion raised for charity since 1981.
