The Internet is going gaga over the miniature-sized, bushy, big-eared and adorable face-cut doll or plushies called Labubu. From celebrities to socialites, everyone seems to be enthralled with the collection, making it a global trend.


About the Labubu doll


The Labubu doll is produced by a brand called Kasing Lung, a Hong Kong-originated designer, which is sold under the segment of plush toy monster elves. The toys are now being sold exclusively by the China-based retailer Pop Mart.


The model was initially introduced in the year 2015 as multi-colored monster figurines. Later, by 2019, it skyrocketed as a global brand.


What’s special in Labubu dolls?


Labubu dolls can be recognised having deep, wide eyes that captures attention of the buyer. The furry stature is round, small with protruding ears. It has more importantly nine sharp teeth and a cranky smile that makes it beyond a mere toy.


How much does it costs?


The retailers have touted that every buyer will receive a new doll in the mystery package. This will make their purchase unique and help them stand out. The mystery boxes costs over 16 dollars USD.


History of the Labubu dolls


The dolls belong to the ethnic Nordic culture. The OG creator of the doll, Kasing Lung belonged to the Netherlands. The plushie is part of the story series The Monsters, that champions the legacy of his childhood.


In conversation with Hypebeast, Lung said, “I liked to read storybooks and was influenced by ancient European elf legends. There were no game consoles or computers, so I had to draw dolls with a pen, so I had the idea of painting fairy tales since I was a child.”


The dolls are also commercialised as a segment of the Monster series of stories. Some characters includes Zimomo, Mokoko, and Tycoco.
