Haflong, June 12: Various community organizations in Dima Hasao are urging a comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of Rosmita Hojai, a young woman from the district, whose body was discovered under suspicious circumstances in Uttarakhand.
On Tuesday, these groups submitted a formal appeal to the Home Minister through the Dima Hasao District Commissioner. The Jadikhe Naisho Hosom (Dimasa Apex Body), along with the Dimasa Students' Union and the Dimasa Mothers' Association, collectively expressed their profound grief over this incident.
On Wednesday, a significant candlelight vigil took place in Haflong, where thousands gathered to advocate for justice for Rosmita Hojai. This event, organized by the Dimasa Students' Union in partnership with various other organizations, saw participation from individuals of diverse backgrounds, transcending caste, creed, and religion. The procession moved from Lal Field to the District Commissioner's office, with participants holding candles and chanting slogans that called for a thorough investigation into Rosmita's death.
The community is insisting on a CBI or SIT inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Rosmita's demise, and the march served as a powerful demonstration of their unity in seeking justice.
Reports indicate that Rosmita Hojai went missing on June 5, 2025, in Delhi, shortly after taking her Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) exam.
