After the accident in Ahmedabad, airline companies have become more cautious.
The DGCA said that 66 flights of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the aircraft involved in the accident, have been cancelled, including 83 flights belonging to the airline's widebody fleet. On June 12, the airline operated 90 wide-body flights, of which 50 were 787s. Of these, six were cancelled, including five Dreamliners. DGCA had given clean chit to Boeing 787 flights
In a statement, DGCA said that the recent monitoring of Air India's Boeing 787 fleet did not reveal any major safety concerns. The aviation regulator said that the aircraft and related maintenance systems were found to be in compliance with current safety standards. Out of the 33 aircraft of the airline's Boeing 787-8/9 fleet, 4 aircraft are currently undergoing major inspections at different Maintenance, Repair and Operation (MRO) facilities.
The airline received this advice regarding flights
DGCA advised the airline to strengthen coordination among engineering, operations, ground handling units. The impact of airspace closure, especially on Iranian airspace, was also reviewed. Airspace closure has led to cases of flight diversion, delays and cancellations. Operators have been asked to ensure timely communication with passengers and crew members and adopt alternative routing strategies to minimise disruptions.
