Fit India Sundays on Cycle: A Nationwide Movement

New Delhi, July 10: Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, has called on citizens to maintain the momentum of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative as the 31st edition approaches, scheduled for July 13 across the nation with the involvement of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

This event is expected to take place at over 6,000 locations nationwide, with around 50,000 participants anticipated. A notable feature of this edition will be the participation of The Great Khali, a former WWE champion and India's only Heavyweight title holder, who will lead the cycling rally at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in the capital, accompanied by other prominent figures.

Mandaviya stated, “What began in December last year has transformed into a nationwide fitness movement, reaching over 11,000 locations and inspiring millions. We are advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of an 'Obesity-Free India' with every pedal. Let the Fit India Sundays on Cycle embody the spirit of a new India as we strive for a healthier, stronger, and more vibrant Viksit Bharat.”

Initiated by Mandaviya in December 2024, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle has grown into a flagship campaign promoting cycling as a lifestyle choice among citizens. Recent statistics indicate that the event has expanded to more than 11,000 locations, engaging over 400,000 participants from various age groups.

This Sunday’s cycling event will see special collaboration with PSUs, and more than 500 cyclists are expected to join Khali, also known as Dalip Singh Rana, in New Delhi. At 52, Dalip made history as the first Indian professional wrestler to sign with WWE in 2006.

Previous editions of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle have celebrated themes such as tributes to the armed forces and collaborations with sanitation workers and healthcare professionals. The overarching message remains 'Fighting against Obesity,' a call to action from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This time, the focus is on corporate partnerships through PSUs, reinforcing the government's comprehensive approach to national fitness and the development of Indian sports.

To add excitement to the 31st edition, a special event will be organized by the Raahgiri Foundation in Gurgaon, featuring dance areas, hand painting stations, and traditional games like Ludo, Carrom, and Snakes & Ladders, transforming public spaces into vibrant interactive zones.

The Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), MY Bharat, and Yogasana Bharat. Over 2,000 cycling clubs are actively involved in this initiative every Sunday, with events conducted by various Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), and numerous National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) throughout the country.
