The Indian Railways has decided to fast-track the development work at Hadapsar and Khadki terminals, in an effort to reduce the heavy operational burden on Pune Railway Station.

Hadapsar and Khadki Terminals Likely To Be Operational Soon

Presently, the work to connect their yards and tracks is underway which is expected to be completed by the end of July.

It appears that these upgrades are part of Indian Railways long-term strategy to decentralize train operations from Pune Junction reportedly.

These upcoming terminals are expected to handle part of the rail traffic along with offering enhanced passenger facilities.

So far, the construction of foot overbridges, waiting rooms, and restrooms is underway and progressing steadily and  expect to be completed in the next two months.

With these additions, Indian Railways aims to provide passengers with more convenience and comfort at both stations.

Reportedly, the railway administration has not yet received official approval for new trains.

But they have already given proposals for the  launch of these services from the new terminals.

Improving Regional Connectivity

They have divided it between different zones under which Khadki is likely to serve trains heading toward Mumbai and Gujarat.

Similarly, Hadapsar could become the starting point for trains bound for Solapur and South India.

According to the Indian Railways, this development will definitely help in improving regional connectivity further reducing travel time for many commuters.

If we consider the current scenario, Pune station itself manages around 170 to 180 trains daily, including 83 originating from the station itself.

Please note here that none of the existing services will have their terminal shifted, despite the upcoming additions hence ensuring no disruption to current travel routines.

Here Indian Railways wanted to achieve this without altering current routes while avoiding any inconvenience to the passengers.

Their focus mainly remains on starting entirely new services from Hadapsar and Khadki once the terminals are fully operational.

Shifting existing terminals could lead to confusion and dissatisfaction among travelers, according to the Railway officials.

Following this plan, the administration is fully committed to introducing fresh services from the new locations while retaining Pune Junction’s importance.

Introduction of these services is aimed at meeting rising passenger demand while maintaining operational efficiency.
