India vs england: The round of controversies has started before the final and deciding Test match between India and England starting on Thursday at The Oval. Two days before the match, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and Oval’s Chief Curator Lee Fortis became a sharp noise. The debate started when Fortis instructed the Indian support staff to stay two and a half meters away from the pitch. After this, Gambhir reacted strongly and questioned Fortis’s attitude.
The dispute did not stop here. Fortis is being accused of bias on social media. People are saying that Fortis takes a soft attitude with England coach Brendon McCullum, while India’s coach is showing strictness with Gambhir. There is also resentment within Team India regarding this behavior.
The England team did not practice on Monday, but coach Brendon McCullum and ECB managing director Rob came to the ground to see the pitch. Both were seen standing on the pitch and talking to Curator Fortis. India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said that at that time Fortis had not given any instructions to McCullum, while the next day the Indian support staff was stopped from going to the pitch.
Gambhir expressed displeasure over the behavior of the curator and said, “You will not tell what we have to do, you are just a field worker and nothing more than that.” Gambhir’s remarks came when Fortis gave instructions while interrupting the support staff. During this time the practice was going on normally and 10 Indian players were present on the ground, although captain Shubman Gill was not there at that time.
Questioning the working style of the curator, Sitanshu Kotak said, ‘Curator also needs to understand that the people they are talking to are highly skilled and intelligent. We took care of the practice area, there is no spike mark. He said that when someone works so sensible, the curator should not be arrogant.
Kotak also added this, it is not a 200 year old thing that cannot touch. After all, it is a cricket pitch. He said that the situation worsened when Fortis stopped the support staff from being taken to the cooling box square and shouted at it. Kotak said that the weight of that box will barely 10 kg.
Kotak defended Gambhir, saying, ‘Gautam only said that do not talk to the support staff, because they are under them. No field worker can shout at the support staff of any team. He also added that the team already knew that it is not easy to work with this curator. After this whole controversy, when the media wanted to know his side from Curator Fortis, he said that he said, “This is a big match and he is a little emotional.”
