YouTube is going to start a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) system soon, which will identify the user whether he is under 18 years of age or not, even if he has put a wrong date of birth while creating an account? This new facility will be launched as a test in the US from August 13. After this it will be gradually extended to users.

Big initiative for online safety of children

This decision has come at a time when governments around the world are demanding tech companies to ensure online security of children. The UK, the European Union and many states of the United States have recently implemented policies that forms online platforms to verify the user’s age and protect minors from unsafe or unfair content.

What kind of videos the user searches.

How long the account has been active.

Based on all these information, if the system feels that the user is under 18 years of age, then he will automatically implement some security rules, no matter what the date of birth filed on the account.

Impact on creators and YouTube plan

YouTube also stated that some creators may see a decline in their teenage audiences, which may reduce their ads revenue. Because teen users will now be shown non-Personalized Ads, which can reduce their value, although the company hopes that its effect will be minimized on most creators. YouTube product management director James Besar said that the system will first be tested in the US with limited users. If everything goes well, it will be implemented in other countries as well.
