A bargain holiday home on the Isle of Bute is up for auction for just £20,000. The one-bed property, located in the heart of the town of Rothesay, has been described as an opportunity to buy a "charming coastal base" or an investment property.
Set in the Scottish seaside town, the property opens into an entrance hallway and has a lounge with a feature fireplace, a spacious double bedroom, and a shower room. However, it does not currently have a kitchen. Auctioneers, Auction House Scotland, say the property offers an "outstanding scope for refurbishment and personalisation."
The advert reads: "Its central location makes it particularly appealing to those who have fallen in love with holidaying on the island, or to investors and serviced accommodation operators seeking to meet the growing demand for staycation destinations in Scotland.
"Interested parties are strongly encouraged to register early interest to avoid missing out on what is undeniably a rare and affordable opportunity in a thriving coastal community."
Rothesay is the principal town on the Isle of Bute, in the council area of Argyll and Bute, in Scotland. At the centre of the town is the ruins of the 13th-century Rothesay Castle, unique in Scotland for its circular plan.
During the Victorian era, Rothesay became a popular tourist destination. It is still home to a Victorian frontage on Rothesay Bay. Amongst the esplanade gardens is the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, a unique 1920s circular structure of cast iron and glass, now incorporating a cinema, theatre and interactive displays.
Fifteen minutes south of Rothesay, Mount Stuart House is a magnificent Gothic Revival mansion, built in the late 1800s, which remains the seat of the Stuarts of Bute. It opens to the public from spring to autumn.
Ettrick Bay is one of the island's best beaches. It is sheltered with views of Arran and a great place to go seal spotting. It has a 4.8 score on TripAdvisor with one visitor calling it "absolutely amazing".
Bute can be reached in 90 minutes from Glasgow, making it one of the most accessible islands in Scotland. The ferry leaves from Wemyss Bay on the mainland and a train runs to Wemyss Bay from Glasgow Central Station.
Flat 1/1, 20 Castle Street, is set to go under the hammer on November 27 by Auction House Scotland. The live auction will start at 2 pm and will be livestreamed for those further afield to participate.
