New Delhi: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh has shown extreme courage as the middle-order batter will rejoin India’s squad on Saturday, just a day after losing his father on Friday morning. Rinku’s father, Khanchand Singh, passed away in the early hours of February 27 after a prolonged battle with liver cancer.
His last rites were performed in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh on Friday by Rinku, who had flown to his hometown as soon as the grieving news arrived. He breathed his last at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. Earlier before India’s Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe, his father was hospitalised and the player flew from Chennai to be with his family. Rinku just stayed for a day before returning for the fixture which reflects on his professional commitment.
Although he was not a part of the playing XI but the Indian player was seen fielding while India bowled. Meanwhile, India play a must-win clash against the West Indies on Sunday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and contest will decide their fate in the marquee event. It is yet not evident whether Rinku would be included in the match or not.
Meanwhile, Rinku and his four brothers performed the last rites together, with many family members, relatives, and locals in attendance. A source close to the family told news agency PTI that the Indian cricketer flew to Delhi and then travelled to Aligarh via road to attend the last rites of his father. The source also informed that the cricketer reached his hometown just an hour before the last rites which were carried on at a crematorium near Ramghat Road.
