As soon as the knockout matches of IPL 2026 start, the book of records has started being written afresh. In the high-voltage eliminator match played between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the cricket world witnessed a charisma, the echo of which will be heard for years. Sunrisers captain Pat Cummins had won the toss and decided to bowl first, but Rajasthan’s 15-year-old young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi turned the decision into a nightmare with his destructive batting. Vaibhav Suryavanshi created such a ruckus on the field that at one time ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle’s record of the fastest 30-ball century and the highest innings of 175 runs in IPL history was in danger. However, Vaibhav missed his historic century by just 3 runs and was out after scoring 97 runs in 29 balls, but by then he had eliminated Hyderabad from the match. Match Account: 243 runs scored in 8 overs! In this very short match which was interrupted due to rain or any other reason, Rajasthan Royals scored a huge score of 243 runs in the stipulated 8 overs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit 5 fours and 12 skyscraper sixes during his innings. During this period, his strike rate was a mind-blowing 334.48. In reply, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, which came to chase a target like a mountain of runs, could not bear the pressure and the entire team was reduced to 196 runs. By winning this eliminator match by 47 runs, Rajasthan Royals have proudly made it to Qualifier-2, where they will face Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 29. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his incredible innings. Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke the great records of Chris Gayle and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Although Vaibhav Suryavanshi may have missed breaking the record of Chris Gayle’s fastest century, but on the basis of his innings he made two biggest records in the history of IPL: 1. Most sixes in a season: Chris Gayle’s 14 year old record broken. Chris Gayle scored 14 runs while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2012. He hit 59 sixes in the matches, which was the highest number of sixes hit by any batsman in a single season so far. Vaibhav Suryavanshi put Gayle’s ‘great record’ in the pages of history by hitting 12 sixes in this match. New record: Vaibhav Suryavanshi has now hit 65 sixes in this season. Big difference in balls: While Chris Gayle had played 456 balls to hit 59 sixes in 2012, Vaibhav has hit 65 sixes in just 266 balls. 2. Most successful uncapped player in IPL history: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who defeated Yashasvi Jaiswal, has now become the uncapped Indian player (who has not played an international match) who has scored the most runs in a single season of IPL. New record: Vaibhav has scored 680 runs so far this season and he is also on top in the Orange Cap race. Old record: Earlier this record was in the name of his teammate opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored 626 runs in IPL 2023. (Let us tell you that after this brilliant performance, Yashasvi got a chance to debut for Team India).
