A very good news is coming from the corridors of cricket. Another ‘Dravid’ from the house of Indian cricket legend and former captain Rahul Dravid, who won the T20 World Cup 2024 title under his coaching, is ready to wear the blue jersey of Team India. Rahul Dravid’s younger son and wicketkeeper-batsman Anvay Dravid has been included in India’s Under-19 team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka next month. The junior cricket selection committee led by Sharath Sridharan on Thursday officially announced both the ODI and red-ball teams for the tour of Sri Lanka. This Sri Lanka tour of India will start from July 4, 2026 in Hambantota, in which three ODI and two multi-day matches will be played.
17-year-old right-handed batsman Anvay Dravid has been rewarded for his consistently good performance in domestic junior cricket. He has got a place in the 15-member ODI team as the second wicketkeeper along with Rajat Baghel. Yashvardhan Singh Chauhan of Madhya Pradesh has been given the captaincy of this team, while Lakshya Raichandani will be the vice-captain. This is a very special moment for the Dravid family. Anvay’s elder brother Samit Dravid has also played Under-19 cricket for Karnataka, but Anvay is the first among his two brothers to make it to the national team (Team India).
Anvay recently captained the Karnataka Under-19 team in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and took the team to the quarter-finals. Anvay, who played the role of anchor in the middle order, scored 220 runs in 6 innings. During this, he played an unbeaten match-winning inning of 82 runs while chasing in a pressure match against Himachal Pradesh, which caught everyone’s attention. Before this, he had also scored a brilliant century in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy.
The selectors are looking at this tour as a new beginning from the point of view of the next Under-19 World Cup. In terms of age, Anvay is completely eligible for this big tournament to be held after two years. In such a situation, this experience of Sri Lankan pitches and conditions there will prove to be very important for his career. The Indian Under-19 team will leave for Sri Lanka in the last week of June. After the end of the ODI series, red-ball matches will be played, for which a separate team has been announced.
Yashvardhan Singh Chauhan (captain), Lakshya Raichandani (vice-captain), Sagar Virk, Vineet VK, Arjun Rajput, Kushagra Ojha, Rajat Baghel (wicketkeeper), Anvay Dravid (wicketkeeper), Anmoljeet Singh, Wutkuri Yashvir Gaur, Rohit Anil Yadav, Shavin V, Kavya Paresh Patel, Mohit Ulva, Ishan Sood.
