India-UK trade deal: Customs duty to be waived on auto parts


The ‘Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement’ (CETA) between India and the United Kingdom (UK) is coming into effect from 15 July 2026. The agreement will give the Indian auto component industry a huge advantage in the UK market, as the import duty tariff there, which is as high as 18 percent, will now be zero. This will increase the global competitiveness of Indian companies.

As around 50% of the car is localized at the Chennai plant, the car has been priced at Rs 47.5 lakh (ex-showroom) with reduced import duty. The company intends to double its sales target by 2026 through this strategy.
