Samantha’s ‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’ sets new record in Telugu cinema


Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s latest film Maa Inti Bangaaram has made history by becoming the highest-grossing female-led film in Telugu cinema, surpassing a record that had stood for 17 years.


The action comedy drama has earned more than Rs 83 crore worldwide and Rs 50 crore net in India since its release on June 19, overtaking Anushka Shetty’s 2009 blockbuster Arundhati.


Confirming the milestone, the 39-year-old actress’ production house, Tralala Moving Pictures, shared on social media: “BANGAARAM writes history in GOLDEN LETTERS. #MaaIntiBangaaram becomes the HIGHEST GROSSING FEMALE-LED FILM EVER in Telugu cinema.”


Fans celebrated the achievement online, with many calling Samantha a “queen” and a “superstar”.


Before this, Arundhatidirected by Kodi Ramakrishna and starring Anushka Shetty alongside Sonu Sood, held the record after collecting more than Rs 70 crore worldwide.


At the time, the figure was considered a rare achievement for a woman-led Telugu film.


Directed by Nandini Reddy, Maa Inti Bangaaram is produced by the slaughtered actress, her husband, Raj Nidimoru and Himank Reddy Duvvuru under Tralala Moving Pictures.


The film stars Samantha alongside Gulshan Devaiah, Diganth Manchale, Sreemukhi, Manjusha Mukkavilli and Gautami.


The film opened to positive reviews and benefited from strong word of mouth. It also drew attention after it was revealed that the 24 actor had filmed parts of the movie while she was pregnant.


Despite setting a new Telugu record, Maa Inti Bangaaram is still behind Malayalam film Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandrawhich remains South India’s highest-grossing female-led film.
