There is a stir in the bureaucracy of Uttar Pradesh at this time. A total of 363 PCS officers were transferred within just 12 hours on Monday. First, the list of 182 officers came late in the night and a few hours later, orders for transfer of 181 more PCS officers were issued. This is probably the biggest administrative reshuffle in recent years, which has created a stir in the entire state department.

SDM’s work areas changed on a large scale

As part of this major administrative exercise, the government has made sweeping changes in almost every part of the state—from Purvanchal to Bundelkhand and western UP. The jurisdictions of a large number of Sub-District Magistrates (SDMs) have been changed in the new list. Nishant Tiwari has been given the responsibility of Fatehpur, Sanjay Yadav of Pratapgarh, Praveen Yadav of Ballia, Mohammad Zafar of Sonbhadra and Naman Mehta of Gorakhpur. Similarly, dozens of officers like Akash Kumar, Shailendra Gautam, Vaibhav Gupta and Shalini Devi have been deployed in new districts. This reshuffle is not just a process of changing the name, but is the result of strict monitoring by the government.

Why did such a big administrative surgery happen?

Questions are being raised in political and administrative circles that why this change so fast? Experts believe that the government has three big agendas behind this: further tightening law and order in the districts, ensuring effective implementation of government schemes on the ground and making the administrative machinery more accountable. The government’s message is very clear—not only will the work be reviewed, but those performing poorly will be removed and those giving better results will be given new responsibilities.
