An absolutely clueless Shreyas Iyer departed, being run out by England captain Harry Brook right after the Indian captain Shubman Gill went back due to cramps. India was going steady in the middle with a modest total to chase in the 1st ODI in Birmingham on July 14. After the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, it was the captain and the vice-captain who were steadily taking India to the winning margin.
While Shubman Gill was the main aggressor, Shreyas was merely a spectator, anchoring the innings. But the gritty innings ended after Shreyas ran cluelessly for a run. After softly pushing Jofra Archer's length ball to the middle, he looked to steal a quick single. However, the ball did not go far. Brook was quick enough to pick it and aim at the striker's end.
Meanwhile, Shreyas, who was running towards the striker's end, probably feared the ball hitting his legs. Becoming aware, he decided to run in a slanting way, eating the time, missing the crease by a whisker.
