New Delhi: Before IPL 2027, trade discussions regarding Hardik Pandya are intense. After leaving Mumbai Indians, Hardik may move to another franchise next season. Amidst the discussion of his name with Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, now a big update has come out regarding his old team Gujarat Titans.
According to the report, Hardik Pandya wanted to make a comeback in Gujarat Titans and talks were also held with the current captain of the team Shubman Gill in this regard. However, one condition emerged which put the entire deal in trouble.
According to the report of 'Indian Express', Hardik Pandya had talked about returning to Gujarat Titans. Hardik has been the first captain of GT. Under his leadership, Gujarat won the title in its very first IPL season. After this, in 2023 the team reached the final under his captaincy.
Hardik returned to Mumbai Indians after leaving Gujarat Titans in 2024. Now the possibility of him once again returning to GT before IPL 2027 has increased the discussion in the cricket world.
The report quoted sources and claimed that Gujarat Titans were ready to take back Hardik. Discussions were also held with current captain Shubman Gill regarding this possible trade.
It was reported that Gill was agreeable to the idea of the franchise bringing back Hardik through a trade. But the matter got stuck when the condition of captaincy came forward from Hardik's side.
According to the source, Gujarat Titans was ready for Hardik's return and talks were also held with Gill, but the proposal was not accepted after the condition of captaincy came to light.
Shubman Gill is currently captaining the Indian Test and ODI team. In such a situation, it would be a big decision for the franchise to remove him and make another player the captain.
Hardik may have been a successful captain for Gujarat Titans and the team also became champion under his captaincy, but changing the current leadership is not considered an easy decision.
However, Hardik Pandya's spokesperson has presented a different picture regarding this entire incident. He claimed that Hardik did not directly contact any franchise regarding trade or any other matter.
According to Hardik's spokesperson, if there has been any kind of contact then it has been through Mumbai Indians.
After this statement, there has been a new twist in the ongoing discussions regarding Hardik's trade. At present it is not clear for which team he will play in IPL 2027.
Hardik's return from Gujarat to Mumbai has been one of the most talked about trade matters of IPL. He has captained Gujarat Titans in 2022 and 2023. From 2024 to 2026, he took charge of Mumbai Indians.
Now if he returns to Gujarat again, it will be his second GT return in IPL and all eyes will be on this possible trade.
Hardik Pandya captained Gujarat Titans in 2022 and 2023. After this, he was the captain of Mumbai Indians from 2024 to 2026.
Captaining a total of 70 IPL matches, Hardik won 37 matches and lost 33. His captaincy win percentage was 52.85.
Under his captaincy, Mumbai Indians could not make it to the playoffs in 2024 and 2026.
