Bangladesh have created history after 23 years by playing a Test series on Australian soil. In the first Test in Darwin, Bangladesh defeated Australia by 9 wickets to register their first Test win in Australia. Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series with this historic win on the fourth day of the match. Australia had set a target of just 57 runs to win against Bangladesh. Bangladesh completed this challenge losing one wicket in just 14.2 overs. Shadman Islam remained unbeaten on 25 runs while Mominul Haq remained unbeaten on 30 runs. Tanzid Hasan, who scored a century in the first innings, was dismissed in the second innings without opening his account. In the end, Bangladesh sealed the historic victory by thrashing the Kangaroos in their own home. Now, Bangladesh's win has brought about a major turnaround in the World Crotty Championship (WTC) standings.

Australia's top spot in jeopardy, Bangladesh gain


According to the World Test Championship 2025-27 points table, Australia's points percentage has dropped due to the loss of the match against Bangladesh. The Australian team is still on the first position with a total points percentage of 77.78. Second in the WTC 2025-27 points table is the reigning champion South Africa with a percentage of total points of 75. So, if Australia loses the second match against Bangladesh, it will lose its first place. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have benefited from this win and are fourth in the current round of the WTC with an aggregate points percentage of 66.67.


Bangladesh beat India


With this victory, Bangladesh has brought about an upheaval in the WTC points table. Bangladesh has now overtaken India in the WTC rankings and has further strengthened its position. Bangladesh remains at the fourth position, but has improved its points percentage significantly. On the other hand, India is ranked fifth.


India is currently touring Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series. India will need to win every match to stay in the race for a place in the finals of the current season of the World Test Championship. The Indian team is currently ranked fifth in the WTC 2025-27 points table with an overall score of 48.15%. A win in the first Test in Gaul could further strengthen their position.
