• First Indian to win Grand Chess Tour

Indian Grandmaster R. R Praggnanandhaa created history by winning the Grand Chess Tour title in St. Louis. He became the first Indian to win this prestigious event. In the final, he did a brilliant job defeating Fabiano Caruana 15-13. The young grandmaster from Chennai did not give up despite being behind by six points. In the end, the picture of the match was changed by making a strong comeback. This is his first Grand Chase Tour Finals title. With this historic win, he won his first trophy and a prize money of approximately Rs 2 crore. He also recently won the St. Louis Rapid and Blitz titles.

Pragnanand's brilliant comeback on the final day

Fabiano Caruana led by six points at the start of the final day of the tournament, so Pragyanand faced a huge challenge. However, this Indian player performed brilliantly and won both the rapid matches to take the lead. He then maintained this lead in the blitz department as well. With the blitz match between the two players tied, Pragyanand won the title easily with a score of 15-13.

The first blitz match was not good for Pragyanand. He had a chance to win, but ran out of time. This worsened his condition. But Caruana could not capitalize on this opportunity and the match eventually ended in a draw. Caruana completely dominated the first classical game of the match to win 6-0. The second classical game played on Wednesday ended in a 3-3 draw. This left Caruana six points ahead of Pragyanand just before the final day's rapid and blitz matches.

Wesley So finished third

In the third-place match in St. Louis, Wesley So defeated Vincent Kemmer to take third place. Both teams won one match each in the rapid matches and the contest was very tight. But, Wesley So then put on an impressive performance in the blitz matches, winning all four matches in a row and clinching the victory before the end of the match. In the end, Wesley So defeated Kemer by a total score of 18-12 to take third place.
