Three cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Hapur, in which an elderly farmer died during treatment. The Health Department has intensified investigation and monitoring of people who came in contact with the infected.


Hapur: The health department has been alerted after the confirmation of three cases of swine flu in the district. After the reports of two women from Hapur and Garhmukteshwar area came positive, the people who were in contact with them were investigated. At the same time, elderly farmer Nanak Sharma, resident of Dhanaura, died during treatment for infection. The department has started necessary preparations including reserving beds in CHC.


Infection confirmed in three patients in Hapur


The health department has increased surveillance after three cases of swine flu were reported in Hapur district. The health of two women from Hapur and Garhmukteshwar area is being monitored after their test reports came positive. People who came in contact with both the patients are also being identified, so that the infection can be prevented from spreading further.


The health department has also got the families of the infected patients and the people nearby examined. People from about 50 houses have been screened. The focus of the department is currently on identification, investigation and monitoring of people who came in contact with infected patients.


Elderly farmer dies during treatment


Nanak Sharma, resident of village Dhanaura, was suffering from fever for the last six days. When his health deteriorated, he was first admitted to a private hospital in Meerut. During investigation, he was confirmed to be infected with swine flu.


When his health did not improve, the family took him to a private hospital in Noida for further treatment. He died during treatment there.


According to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kishore Kumar Ahuja, Nanak Sharma was suffering from TB about two years ago and was also suffering from diabetes. These health problems also had an impact on his condition. Monitoring of his family members has been started and he has been given Oseltamivir antiviral drug.


Do not ignore high fever and breathing problems


The Health Department has appealed to people to take possible symptoms of swine flu seriously. Its main symptoms can be high fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body ache and weakness.


In case of difficulty in breathing or rapid deterioration in health, the patient needs to seek immediate medical advice. The elderly, children and people with weak immunity have been advised to take special precautions during infection.


Four beds will be reserved in every CHC


The Health Department has decided to reserve four beds each in all the Community Health Centers (CHCs) of the district to deal with the infection. Instructions have been given to examine and treat patients with high fever or respiratory problems on priority basis.


Swine flu testing facility will be made available in the district hospital. The department has instructed the concerned health centers to complete the necessary arrangements. The health department is continuously monitoring the situation of infection along with monitoring the people who came in contact with the infected patients.
