At the BRICS Summit, world leaders kept discussing global politics throughout the day, but by night the atmosphere completely changed. At the BRICS Gala Dinner held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim showed such style that the attention of everyone present at the gathering went towards him. Anwar Ibrahim sang Kishore Kumar’s famous song ‘Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqiqat’ on stage. He himself has shared its video on social media platform X and it is going viral very fast and is being liked a lot.

Why did Anwar Ibrahim hold the mike at BRICS Gala Dinner?

During the BRICS summit, a special Gala Dinner was organized for the leaders on Saturday night at Bharat Mandapam. A glimpse of Indian culture and music was also shown in the atmosphere. Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sang Kishore Kumar’s popular song ‘Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqiqat’ in his own voice. An artist was present with him on the piano, who was playing tunes. As soon as this style of Anwar came to light, the video became popular on social media.

Anwar Ibrahim is already a fan of Kishore Kumar

The interesting thing is that Anwar Ibrahim’s love for Kishore Kumar is not new. The Malaysian Prime Minister has already publicly stated that he is a fan of Kishore Kumar. He had also sung the same song in an interview during his visit to India in the year 2024, that is, this song sung at the BRICS Dinner in Delhi was not an ordinary song chosen suddenly. This is also to Anwar Ibrahim’s old love of music.

This song is from the 1965 film

‘Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqiqat’ is a popular song from the Hindi film ‘Teen Deviyan’ released in 1965. Kishore Kumar gave his voice to it. Music SD Burman and the lyrics of the song were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Kishore Kumar’s voice and the romantic tune of the song made it one of the memorable songs of Hindi cinema. Now listening to the same song in the voice of the Prime Minister of Malaysia became the most interesting moment of the BRICS Gala Dinner.

Anwar’s musical style after meeting Modi

For Anwar Ibrahim, BRICS Summit was not limited to just cultural programs. Before this, he also held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Issues to bilateral relations, economic cooperation and common interests were discussed between the two leaders. During this, Anwar, while mentioning the popularity of PM Modi, said in a light tone that he has received many messages and good wishes from people for Modi. That is, in the same day diplomacy was done and the color of music was also seen.

Malaysia joined BRICS as a partner country, not a member.

Anwar Ibrahim was invited by India to attend the BRICS Summit. Malaysia participated in this conference as BRICS Partner Country. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, BRICS Leaders’ Summit is the highest level forum of the group, where global governance, sustainable development, economic cooperation, trade and investment, digital transformation and challenges facing developing countries are discussed. That means Anwar’s presence on the BRICS platform was not just a formal visit. This was also an important opportunity for Malaysia to join the big platform of the Global South.

First politics, then music… Anwar’s special connection in India

Anwar Ibrahim’s entire day at the BRICS Summit was filled with diplomatic meetings. But his completely different style was seen at the Gala Dinner. While during the day he was talking about the changing equations of the world and global growth, in the evening Kishore Kumar’s song changed the entire atmosphere. And the most special thing was that he chose the same song, which he had sung in India before.

Not only songs in dinner, but also colors of Indian culture

Apart from Anwar Ibrahim’s performance, a cultural program was also organized at the BRICS Gala Dinner. There was a presentation named ‘Navarasa – The Universe of Shared Emotions’. Along with this, BRICS Symphony ‘One Rhythm, Many Cultures’ was also presented, in which artists from member and partner countries participated. That is, in this dinner an attempt was made to bring the culture of different countries along with the diplomacy of BRICS on one platform.

Why is Anwar’s video going viral?

This video of Anwar Ibrahim is also special because the story here is not about any big political statement, but about the connection of a foreign Prime Minister with Indian music. Kishore Kumar’s song, BRICS Gala Dinner in Delhi and the voice of the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Together, these three created a moment which is being shared rapidly on social media.

This style of Anwar Ibrahim during diplomatic meetings also shows that the story of relations between India and Malaysia is not limited to just meetings and agreements. Amidst the heavy-handed diplomacy of BRICS, Kishore Kumar’s tune made the atmosphere absolutely light and interesting for a few moments.
