Mumbai: Many politicians questioned the safety of privileged as well as common people following the attack on actor Tiger Shroff . The opposition alleged deteriorating law and order situation, while the governing BJP promised swift action.

CM Devendra Fadnavis , who also holds the home portfolio, called Mumbai police commissioner Deven Bharti . He directed Bharti to investigate and take strict action against the culprits. Fadnavis also rang Tiger. The CMO issued a statement stating that Fadnavis told him, “We are all with you. We will catch the accused soon. We assure you not to worry.”

NCP MLC Zeeshan Siddique , whose father Baba Siddique was shot dead allegedly at the behest of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi ’s cousin Anmol in Oct 2024, said govt must answer why these attacks are happening in Mumbai. “...Even now we have not got justice. I also got threats but my security has not been enhanced. If we are going back 25 years, then the home department must answer... If top actors, politicians and businessmen are not safe, then how can the common people feel safe? Govt must see why its intelligence is failing. It will have to fix responsibility.”

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde called the attack deeply concerning. He said he had spoken to Bharti and Tiger and his father, Jackie. “The police commissioner has formed several teams to track down and apprehend those responsible and we will respond to them in their own language. Our current priority is to keep Mumbai and its citizens safe. Whether it is a celebrity or an ordinary citizen, ensuring their safety is the responsibility of both police and govt. There will be no laxity in this regard, and no gang, whoever they may be, will be spared.” He said the security arrangements of all celebrities will be reviewed.

MP Varsha Gaikwad said the attack was another example of the deteriorating state of the city’s law and order. “We previously witnessed gunfire outside Salman Khan’s residence. Tragically, Baba Siddique was shot and killed, and shots were also fired outside Rohit Shetty’s home... If even prominent figures like politicians and actors are not safe here, what hope is there for the common people? It brings us back to the fact that the CM holds too many portfolios and is burdened with an excessive workload. Maharashtra needs a dedicated, independent home minister—someone truly capable and formidable. I reiterate: grant police their independence, allow them to perform their duties, and put an end to the political pressure exerted upon them by the home department.”

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule said such attacks in the state were unheard of. “The situation in the state is very grim and we are wondering what govt is doing. The home department must answer this. Zeeshan Siddique is in the governing alliance and he is asking for justice. He is asking for security but is not getting it. What happened to the probe into Baba Siddique’s murder? There is the same govt in the state and the Centre. So what they doing?. Who is responsible? Isn’t it the home ministry?”

BJP minister Ashish Shelar said those responsible will not be spared. He said he, too, had spoken to Bharti. Union minister Piyush Goyal said police will act as quickly as possible to arrest the culprits.
