Hyderabad: Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday, October 28, inspected the ongoing construction of the new Osmania General Hospital at Goshamahal and directed officials to speed up the works, expressing concern over delays against the scheduled targets.
The minister reviewed the hospital’s model designs and visited various blocks at the construction site. He enquired about the progress achieved against the targets and instructed officials to ensure that there was no further delay in completing the scheduled works.
The Telangana government considers the hospital a prestigious project aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure for future generations. The new facility is being built at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,700 crore, with a capacity of 2,000 beds and a built-up area of about 31 lakh square feet.
The project, taken up following Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s vision to upgrade the decades-old hospital, is being designed to meet healthcare requirements for the next 100 years, with modern infrastructure and facilities.
Apart from the main hospital building, the project includes separate hostels for male and female students, a dharmashala, an administrative building, landscaped green spaces and advanced ventilation systems. A sewage treatment plant and rainwater harvesting facilities are also planned as part of the project.
According to the minister, the foundation works have been completed and slabs for two floors have been laid. He said the progress of construction would be reviewed every month in coordination with the officials concerned.
Ponnam Prabhakar said issues relating to land acquisition, road connectivity and legal matters concerning the heritage status of a nearby hostel would be resolved at the earliest to avoid further hurdles to the project.
