New Delhi: The political conflict has intensified after the results of the presidential elections in Brazil. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has expressed strong displeasure over former President Jair Bolsonaro’s son Flavio Bolsonaro leaving the country and going to America after his defeat in the elections. Lula said that if Flavio believed himself innocent, he should have proved his innocence by staying in Brazil rather than fleeing the country. Meanwhile, America’s preparation to grant visa to the Bolsonaro family has raised fears of increasing political tension between the two countries.

According to news agency Reuters, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro left the country after his defeat by Lula in the presidential election held on Sunday. He did not accept his defeat in the elections. Action is going on against Flavio in a case to money laundering. It is reported that despite the order of the Supreme Court, he did not submit his passport. However, Flavio has denied the allegations against him.

‘If he is innocent then he would have answered by staying in the country’

On Tuesday in Brasilia, President Lula said that he had recently received information about Flavio leaving Brazil. He described the move as shameful and said that if the senator felt he had done no wrong, he should have stayed in the country and faced the legal process. It is clear from Lula’s statement that he is targeting the Bolsonaro family regarding this matter.

America will give visa to Bolsonaro family

A senior US State Department official has confirmed that Flavio, his wife and their two daughters will be issued US visas. However, Flavio’s current location has not been officially confirmed. A source close to the family said that he has reached Florida. This development has sparked a new debate in Brazilian politics.

Trump’s statement may increase tension between the two countries

Flavio’s visit to America may increase the tension in relations between Brazil and America. President Lula has earlier also alleged that the US is working with the Bolsonaro family to bring them back to power.

Before the elections, Reuters had reported on efforts by the US State Department aimed at re-increasing the political influence of the Bolsonaro family. US President Donald Trump has previously supported Jair Bolsonaro and accused the Brazilian judiciary of targeting him. On Monday, Trump also described Brazil’s election as ‘another rigged election’. However, he did not comment directly on Flavio leaving the country.
