In fact, apart from IPL, BCCI had introduced Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 (SMT T20) a few years ago. The Board informed the State Association on Monday that it has been decided to scrap the provision of 'Impact Player' for the current season of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20. However, the impact player rule is going to remain in place in the IPL till the next season. BCCI had recently decided to continue it till IPL 2027.

It is noteworthy that the Impact Player Rule was imposed in IPL 2023, after which a debate broke out on its advantages and disadvantages. Many legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had expressed concern over this rule, saying that it could be harmful for the development of all-rounders. On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin and former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan had openly praised this rule.
