Alia Bhatt opened up being diagnosed with ADHD and shared moments when she is “most present”. With growing cases of ADHD, here are few symptoms that one must be aware of.






Alia Bhatt opens up about ADHD

In the past couple of years, conversation around mental health have increased. Recently, people are talking about ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is often diagnosed at during adolescence or childhood stage. People often continue to live with it and also have the symptoms as adults. It is characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can interfere with daily functioning and development. Understanding the symptoms and management strategies is essential for effectively coping with ADHD.


One of the living examples, is the ‘Jigra’ actress Alia Bhatt. In an interview she shared that she had been diagnosed with ADHD and used to get zoned out quite often.

“I used to get zoned out from a young age. I used to get zoned out in the classroom or during conversations. Recently, I did a psychological test and found out that I am high on the ADHD spectrum. I have ADHD – Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Whenever I told about this to my friends, they were like, “we always knew”. This is not some sort of revelation. But, I didn’t know,” Alia said in a conversation with The Lallantop.


Explaining further about her moments of peace, she said how wit her daughter Rah, she feels very present. She further added that, “I understood why I am at peace in front of the camera. I’m most present in that moment. Whenever I am in front of the camera, I am present as the character I am playing. And I’m most present in that moment. And now after Raha, when I am with her, I am most present. These are the two moments in my life where I am more peaceful.”


Symptoms of ADHD


ADHD symptoms can vary widely but generally fall into categories – difficulty in paying attention, hyperactivity or impulsivity.



  1. Lack of concentration: Difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play. Frequent careless mistakes in schoolwork or other activities.

  2. Forgetfulness: ADHD may affect the cognitive functioning, One may tend to forget recent and distant activities or events.

  3. Time Management: People with ADHD have Under active-dopamine dysregulation. This could lead procrastination of work. One may not be able to multitask with optimal efficiency levels.

  4. Hyperactivity: Fidgeting or tapping hands and feet. Difficulty remaining seated in situations where it is expected. Given to their dopamine and neurotransmission pace, they may find it challenging to shift attention and focus too hard om matter at hand.


Managing ADHD


Effective management of ADHD often involves a combination of strategies:



  • Medication: Stimulant medications, such as methylphenidate or amphetamines, are commonly prescribed and can help improve focus and reduce impulsivity. Non-stimulant options are also available.

  • Behavioral Therapy: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help individuals develop coping strategies and improve organisational skills. Parent training and support can also be beneficial for children with ADHD.

  • Exercise: Physical activity can help reduce symptoms and improve mood and focus.

  • Healthy Diet: A balanced diet rich in whole foods can support overall brain health.

  • Sleep Hygiene: Establishing a consistent sleep routine is vital, as sleep deprivation can exacerbate symptoms.


Building a strong support network of family, friends, and educators can provide encouragement and understanding.


ADHD is a multifaceted condition that requires a comprehensive approach to management. By recognising the symptoms and implementing effective strategies, individuals with ADHD can lead productive and fulfilling lives. Approaching a professional will help to better manage a life with ADHD, both for the person living with it and their caregivers too.
