According to government figures released on Thursday, Malaysia has seen fewer weddings and divorces in 2023.
According to a statement from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), there were 188,100 weddings in the nation in 2023, down 12.5% from 215,022 in 2022, according to Xinhua.
As a result, the crude marriage rate dropped from 6.6 in 2022 to 5.7 per thousand people in 2023.
The median age for brides and grooms, according to the DOSM, stayed at 26 and 28, respectively.
For both brides and grooms, the age range of 25 to 29 years old accounts for the largest number of weddings.
In the meantime, divorce rates in Malaysia decreased from 63,338 in 2022 to 57,835 in 2023, an 8.7% decrease.
As a result, the crude divorce rate decreased from 1.9 per thousand people in 2022 to 1.8 in 2023.
The DOSM reports that the age range of 30-34 years old accounts for the largest number of divorces among both men and females.
