Benjamin Sesko says it does not matter how many minutes he plays for Manchester United after scoring the winning goal against Everton as a substitute. Michael Carrick brought the striker on for Amad, and he scored barely 10 minutes later after finishing a Bryan Mbeumo-led counterattack by firing past Jordan Pickford.

Sesko has yet to start a single match since the appointment of Michael Carrick. However, the summer signing has now scored three goals in four games as a substitute.

Those strikes have earned United five points and kept their unbeaten streak going. Sesko, though, sounds happy with his role.

The match-winner told Sky Sports : "For me, it's important whenever I come on to try and help the team, that is why I'm here. Whether that is five minutes or 90 minutes, it doesn't really matter; it's about showing I can deliver if I possibly can, and I'm really happy with that.

"I believe in myself, and so do the other players as well; they know what they are going to get when I arrive in the game. It's up to me to deliver, of course.

"It was really important for us to win this game; it was really difficult. We were fighting, they were fighting, it was a really 50/50 battle, but we managed it until the end and secured the win."

However, Sesko's angry goal celebration in front of the travelling supporters seemingly tells a different story. The striker sent Carrick a loud, air-punching message.

United's head coach understands the calls for Sesko to start matches. Carrick said: "I get why everyone's talking about it and making a bigger deal of it, but I've got a really good relationship with Ben, we've had some really good conversations, and he's in a really good place.

"Part of us is helping him take his steps in development and growing him as a player. Sometimes that's little steps, sometimes that's bigger steps. He's taken some huge steps recently in terms of the goals he scored and the impact, and that confidence and that belief that he's playing with now is great to see. We've obviously got to manage that as well, and we've got some good forwards, so it's one of those decisions that we've got to try and get right.

"I've got no problem with Ben, and he hasn't got an issue. He obviously wants to play, but I can't speak highly enough of how he's been and the work he's putting in and his attitude to come on and do what he's done again. I thought he finished with so much confidence and belief, a ruthless finish which kind of sums up where he's at at the minute, which is great to see."
