One episode of 24 Hours in Police Custody contained a twist viewers couldn't get their heads around. The Channel 4 police documentary aired a two-part special last year - which is still free to stream - investigating a triple homicide, which saw three members of the same family tragically shot in their home. This article will contain spoilers for the episode.
48-year-old Juliana Falcon and her two children Kyle, 16, and Giselle, 13, were fatally shot and killed in Luton in September 2024. Police were alerted to the incident when a downstairs neighbour heard gunshots and rushed round to investigate, calling 999 when she got no answer from the flat upstairs.
The frantic caller was reassured by police, who admitted they had no idea who the perpetrator was.
A manhunt was launched, but with few clues to go on, cops were stumped for several hours. Later, though, Bedfordshire Police apprehended Juliana's third child - Nicholas Prosper. He was just 18 at the time of the murders, and in a twist nobody saw coming, had brutally killed his family.
The documentary explores how Nicholas murdered three members of his family at the Leabank tower block before planning a mass shooting at the primary school he used to go to. He was also planning another horrific act against his own family.
He hid for several hours, giving up on his plans for a mass shooting, but eventually flagged down a police officer and handed himself in.
In 2025, Prosper was sentenced to a minimum term of 49 years behind bars.
However, the sentence was branded "unduly lenient" by Solicitor General Lucy Rigby KC, with some critics insisting he should instead have been handed a whole-life order.
Prosper's solicitor said at the Court of Appeal: "The reality is that with the existing sentence, the earliest date he could actually be considered for parole is in his late 60s, and the dangerousness is covered by the life sentence."
