New Delhi: The Hyundai Venue has received a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests. This makes it one of the safest compact SUVs tested under the programme so far. It scored 31.15 out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 44.46 out of 49 in child occupant protection (COP).

This is Hyundai’s second car to be tested by Bharat NCAP after the Tucson. The Venue’s scores are higher than most of its direct rivals in the segment, including the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Kia Syros. Only the Skoda Kylaq comes close, especially in child safety where it scored slightly higher.

Venue AOP result

In the adult safety tests, the Venue performed strongly across different crash scenarios. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it scored 15.15 out of 16. The driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet were rated as ‘good’, while the chest and tibiae got an ‘adequate’ rating. For the co-driver, most areas received ‘good’ protection, except the tibiae, which were rated ‘adequate’.

In the side impact tests, the Venue scored full marks. Both the side movable deformable barrier test and the side pole impact test showed ‘good’ protection for all key body parts. Overall, its AOP score of 31.15 is the highest among compact SUVs tested so far.

Child occupant protection and safety features

For child safety, the Venue scored 44.46 out of 49. In the dynamic tests, it scored 23.46 out of 24. The 18-month-old child dummy received 7.46 out of 8 in the frontal test and full marks in the side test. The 3-year-old dummy scored full points in both tests.

The CRS (child restraint system) installation test also got full marks at 12 out of 12. However, the car lost some points in the vehicle assessment category, scoring 9 out of 13.

In terms of safety features, the Venue comes with six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill-start assist, seatbelt reminders for all seats, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX mounts as standard. Higher variants add features like Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold.
