A The Repair Shop guest was left emotional after seeing a restored item of his friend who sadly passed away.
The beloved BBC programme returned to screens on Wednesday (March 25). For the latest instalment, Sonnaz Nooranvary and Angelina were tasked to salvage a battered lamp, brought in by John Wilson from London.
The unique lamp belonged to John's close friend Brian, who used to host lavish cocktail parties in the 1980s in his Soho flat in London. Everything in his bijou apartment was designed around the lamp.
According to John, it was a period full of happy times. However, the Aids epidemic hit and tragically, Brian was diagnosed as HIV-positive.
John became his carer and companion before Brian passed away in the mid-1990s, but not before gifting the lamp to John.
"We were really, really, close. He was my family?" John shared. He added: "So it became a very sort of normal thing for me to want to look after him, to keep an eye on him."
Over the years though, the lamp, which John called "very important" to him had become brittle and broken, causing him to bring it to Sonnaz and Angelina to pair up to repair the cracks.
After fixing up the item, Sonnaz and Angelina showed John the lamp. Looking at it, John exclaimed: "Oh my god! Oh wow. It looks exactly like it looked. I can't believe it it's incredible."
After switching it on, John was overcome with emotion. He said: "I'm so happy." John was then told by the experts that they could see why Brian was in love with it, causing John to get emotional.
Tearfully, he added: "He'd be really pleased," before taking deep breaths to compose himself. Tom continued: "It's stunning. I'm absolutely delighted thank you."
The Repair Shop airs every Wednesday at 8am on BBC One.
